Frequently Asked Questions

Where will my session take place?
I believe that the best portraits happen outside of a studio and am inspired by being on location. Before your session we will collaborate and agree on a location for your session. If you are unsure about a location, don’t worry! There are great locations to be found all over the region! I love off the wall places so if you feel bold and want something completely different- let’s brainstorm! Also, when brainstorming for your session, you should think about locations you might have access to that no one else does. Perhaps an old barn, an abandoned building or a junk yard full of old rusty cars on a family member’s property? Some of my best photo shoots have taken place at secret, off-the-wall locations on family or friends properties. This way your photos will be sure to be unique!

Where do I change?
I bring along a portable pop up photo booth for your session so you can change on location anywhere!

What should I wear?
The number one rule is that you should always wear clothes that you feel comfortable in. Pick some fun outfits that express your personal style and don’t forget the accessories! We will talk over the phone before your session and you can text me photos of outfit combinations or send me emails of things you are considering wearing for your session if you need a little extra help. You should also consider shopping at a local boutique before your session. There are many recommended boutiques on my “shop small, shop local” page and these places can help you pick out some pieces that complement you and highlight your personality and personal style. Visit my shopping guide tab for these recommended places to shop!

Can I bring props?
ABSOLUTELY! Incorporate your hobbies and extracurricular activities into your photos! Bring your sports props, bring your car, bring your dog, whatever!

Who should I bring?
Stop and think about what is going to make you most comfortable during your portrait session. Will having a parent there make you feel more relaxed or more tense? Parents are always welcome to attend sessions. Friends are welcome too! Sometimes sessions are more relaxed when friends are there to make you laugh. If you feel more comfortable not having any type of audience you don’t have to bring anyone!

Should I get my hair and makeup done?
I always encourage professional hair and makeup! Getting your hair done with professional products at a salon will help to tame those pesky fly-away hairs during your shoot. But most importantly, it makes you look and feel your absolute best!

What if my face breaks out right before my session?
Don’t worry! I can fix that! As long as it’s not break-out-of-the-century it is much easier to go ahead with your session than reschedule. I correct breakouts in Photoshop so no one will ever know you had a minor skin problem right before your session!

What happens if it rains during my session?
I block off a certain number of days every year to make up sessions in the event of rain. A lot of the time if it rains in the morning, it will clear up by evening so I don’t call off sessions until about an hour before we meet. Also, sometimes a good rain can make everything so much more colorful and lush for a session. If we must call off session due to rain we will reschedule. But if you are feeling adventurous we can always conduct your session with an umbrella and cute rain boots in the rain!

How do I order my photos?
You will order your photos in the comfort of your home, at your own pace via your online photo gallery that you will receive after your session. I am always available for guidance and advice if you need me but most of the time seniors and their parents are comfortable making selections on their own.

Can I use my print credit towards products such as canvases and albums?
Sorry but the print credit that comes with your package is good toward prints only. All products are considered add-on options and your print credit cannot be used towards them. You can use your print credit towards the purchase of digital files or prints.

What happens after my session?
Shortly after your portrait session I offer a few images for preview via social media and my blog page. These images will be watermarked but you can use them on your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or other social media to showcase to friends and family. Then, no more than 4 weeks after your session you will receive an email containing your web gallery information and your password. You will receive instructions on how to log in and view your photos. Around the same time, you will also receive your set of watermarked print proofs that will come packaged in a yellow envelope and shipped directly to your home. All proofs come with a copyright studio logo across them but they are yours to keep! All proofs are 4×5 size. Use your proofs to take to school to show your friends or to show family members while deciding which prints to order!

What kind of retouching do you do?
Skin softening and basic touch ups are included for every photograph when needed. In depth manipulations such as braces removal come at additional fees. Contact me for pricing details.

Can I use a photo for the yearbook?
As an additional service to my clients, yearbook images can be sent directly to your school electronically for the yearbook for no additional fee. You just need to let me know well in advance what image you would like submitted and supply me with the information for submission. Do not wait until the last minute as the photographer is not liable for missing yearbook deadlines if not told which image to submit within a reasonable time period.
